Welcoming October: A Season of Change 🍂

Oct 1
4 min read

October 1st.

I don't know how we got here already. Somehow, we've officially entered the last quarter of the year, and I swear I was just getting used to writing 2026.

But I have to admit, I'm happy to see October.

I love the changing of the seasons. Not just fall—although there is something especially magical about fall—but every transition from one season into the next.

And this might sound a little strange, but I can always feel when the seasons are changing.

Not because I looked at the calendar. Not because the temperature suddenly dropped. Especially living in Arizona, where the weather doesn't always get the memo that a new season has arrived. 😂

I feel it in my body.

There are little things that happen every time the seasons begin to shift. It's hard to explain, but I've noticed the pattern enough over the years that I recognize it now. Before the world around me necessarily looks different, something in me already knows that change is coming.

Maybe that's part of why I've always loved the changing seasons so much.

Change Isn't Always a Bad Thing

I tell my kids all the time that change—even when it's scary—is actually a good thing.

We get comfortable with what we know. We build routines, figure out what works, and settle into spaces that feel familiar. And there isn't anything wrong with being comfortable.

But sometimes change pushes us out of what we know and into something we never even considered an option.

Something we may never have chosen for ourselves.

And sometimes that's exactly where we're supposed to go.

That doesn't mean every change feels good while we're going through it. Some changes are exciting. Some are uncomfortable. Some are downright painful. And sometimes we don't understand what a particular season of our life was teaching us until we're already on the other side of it.

Nature seems to understand this better than we do.

The trees don't fight autumn.

They change colors. They let go. They become bare. They rest.

And eventually, they grow again.

There is something incredibly beautiful about that.

Turning the Page on September

If you've been hanging around my little corner of the world lately, you probably know September was... a lot. 😂

There were beautiful moments mixed in with some incredibly stressful ones. There were unexpected detours, family, work, football, wedding preparations, my business, responsibilities, and more than a few days where I was basically just trying to keep all the plates spinning.

And apparently some of those plates are following me straight into October. 😂

Football season is still very much happening. Our booster president is currently convinced she's going to be ready to jump right back into things after being in the hospital, while I'm over here thinking her body might have a slightly different opinion about that plan.

Which means there's a good chance the Kim Show will continue for a little while longer.

But that's okay.

Because turning the calendar to October doesn't mean everything suddenly becomes easy.

A new month doesn't magically erase our responsibilities or solve everything that was difficult about the month before.

Sometimes a new month simply gives us a moment to stop and say:

Okay. That was that season. What's next?

Maybe We Can Learn Something From Autumn

Fall has always felt like an invitation to me.

An invitation to slow down a little.

To notice things.

To spend more time outside.

To create.

To make our spaces feel warm and comforting.

To reconnect with ourselves.

And maybe most importantly, to let go of some things.

We spend so much of our lives thinking letting go means we've failed, given up, or lost something.

But look at autumn.

Nature can be absolutely breathtaking while releasing what it no longer needs.

Maybe we can do that too.

Maybe we can give ourselves permission to let go of expectations that don't fit anymore.

Permission to change our minds.

Permission to try something different.

Permission to create simply because it makes us happy.

Permission to rest when we need it.

Permission to step outside of what is comfortable and see what else might be waiting for us.

And permission to enjoy where we are without constantly worrying about where we're supposed to be next.

Hello, October 🍁

I'm not walking into October with a giant list of resolutions.

I'm not declaring that this will be the month when I suddenly get everything together. Let's not get carried away. 😂

I'm just welcoming the change.

I'm looking forward to cooler mornings, changing light, autumn energy, creating things with my hands, wedding preparations, football memories, time with the people I love, and hopefully finding a few quiet moments somewhere in between all of it.

I'm also reminding myself of the same thing I've spent years telling my kids:

Change can be scary.

But change can also take us somewhere we never knew existed.

So here's to October.

Here's to changing seasons, letting go, trying new things, and trusting that we don't always have to know exactly where we're going.

Sometimes we just have to be willing to step into the next season and see what we find there.

Thank you for spending a few minutes in my little corner of the world. Until next time... 💛

Find Your Spirit,

Kim
