A Different Kind of Creating: When Football Season Begins

There are certain times of the year when life seems to shift into a completely different gear.

For me, football season is one of those times.

For the past eight years, I have volunteered with our high school football program. Most of my boys have gone through the program over the years, and now my youngest is starting his freshman year.

Which means here we go again. 💛

Football has become such a big part of our family's life that when the season rolls around, I pretty much know that things are about to get busy.

Very busy.

My role with the football program actually lets me use two completely different sides of myself.

There's the bookkeeping side—the numbers, budgets, payments, invoices and all of the behind-the-scenes work that comes with helping manage a booster club.

And then there's the creative side.

Over the years, I've designed different items that we could sell to raise money for the team. I've created everything from towels and cowbells to jewelry. Sometimes that means designing something to have produced, and sometimes it means sitting down at my craft table and actually making something myself.

These football earrings are one of those creations.

I made them and donated them to the booster club so that every dollar from their sale could go right back into supporting the team.

It's funny because it feels like such a different world from the things I normally create for Spirited Crafts, but at the same time, it really isn't.

I'm still creating.

I'm still taking an idea and figuring out how to turn it into something tangible.

And I'm still using something I love doing to contribute to something that matters to me.

Volunteering for eight years has been incredibly fulfilling, but I won't pretend it isn't time-consuming. Football season means practices, games, fundraisers, paperwork, meetings, last-minute problems and a whole lot of things happening behind the scenes that most people will never see.

There are definitely days when I wonder how I'm going to fit everything in.

But then Friday night comes.

The stadium lights turn on. The stands fill up. The boys take the field.

And somehow, it feels worth it.

As this season begins, I'm reminding myself that life doesn't always have to fit neatly into separate little boxes.

I can be a business owner.

I can be a bookkeeper.

I can be an artist and maker.

I can be a mom.

I can be a volunteer.

And sometimes all of those pieces of my life overlap in the most unexpected ways.

So if things around here get a little busier over the next few months, now you know why.

Football season has officially arrived. 🏈💛

Thank you for spending a few minutes in my little corner of the world.

Until next time...

💛 Find Your Spirit,

Kim
